Everyone knows that great style comes from great personality. An item of clothing on one guy may look cool on him and then look terrible on his brother. It happens and is easy to understand. You just need to understand that your average normal guy is normal and average looking and worse yet, has average taste in fashion. He can work out as much as he wants, have plastic surgery, and even win the lottery, but nothing will make him less normal and average faster than improving his wardrobe.

The problem is fashion can be quite the tricky thing for many men. No one is saying you need to be cutting edge, but at least try for up-to-date. Like for example, you really shouldn’t need help coordinating appropriate colors with your clothes. It’s even easier if you follow a couple simple rules. Match your tie with your shirt – Every guy I know has at least one colored tie that matches a solid-colored shirt. Unfortunately for them, this look is so yesterday and it’s time to shake things up a bit. Experiment with color. Don’t be shy. If colors aren’t your thing, then how about wearing ties with diagonal stripes, plaids or other subtle patterns. Be sure not to forget to match your tie with your shirt, suit, or sweater. Never ever wear a novelty tie unless it’s Halloween and part of your costume.

Pleated pants and flat-front pants – I don’t think a lot of guys realize how much better flat-front pants look compared to pleated ones. Unless they enjoy looking fatter than they do since pleats make you appear less slim. The excuse most guys give is that pleats are much more comfortable along with other nonsense along those lines. Another reason why I like flat-front pants is simply because they are a lot more fashionable and trendy at this moment.

Socks – Well the official unofficial rule for wearing socks is that the color of your socks better match pants. It doesn’t need to be the exact same color but in that same color group, at least. One of the latest trends are socks with patterns, such as stripes in various colors. Still remember that even though they are patterned, they still should match your pants and shoes in color.

Watches – Watches are the single most important accessory a man can own. If you want to be taken seriously for your fashion astuteness, buy yourself a really nice designer watch. It one of the most distinguishable accessories a man can own. I know some men who own more than one watch and have one to match every outfit they own.

Eyeglasses – Glasses can be much more than just functional. Try using them to enhance your overall look. Purchase a pair of eyeglasses compliments the shape of your face as well as shows off your personality.

Fashion trends dictate that we wear whatever is in season otherwise we could be rudely stared at or whispered about in public, or worse, we can be cited as examples of what a fashion faux pas is. While to some extent we are compelled to follow the norms in fashion, it doesnt necessarily follow that we lose our own sense of style in the process.

Celebrities for instance, know that they are being judged by more than half the worlds population by what they wear on what occasion, and for this reason alone, they turn to famous designers to dress them up in the latest threads in fashion. First of all, unlike a pear shaped girl or hourglass figure, an apple girl’s waist isn’t the narrowest part of her torso. That award goes to her ribcage. So treat the narrowest part of your ribcase as your waist, and suddenly, you’ve got curves too.

By bringing the waistline of your dresses and tops to your rib cage, the effect seen in empire waist clothes, you get a shapely figure. So focus on empire waist dresses and blouses. They flatter you.

Now for Fall and Winter 2008, dresses are hot and they skim the natural waist. Many of them have empire waists. The lace black dress with long sleeves is in. As is the pretty flowy top with big sleeves. So girl, this is your season.

1. Start with a new dress. Prints or plain. Colored or neutral. It doesn’t matter, other than the fact that it has a high waistline and is in a color or colors that flatter you.

2. Detract from you thick waist by drawing the eye to your arms and legs. You blouse should have full sleeves. The hems of the sleeves should be full and flowy. A longish blouse or top that has an empire waist, but flares below to a full hemline is another plus for you. Pick one such blouse, sheer, or lacy or made of a velvet or silk. Either way, if it is flowy and full in the right places, you’ll look more feminine in it.

3. Get one of the black lace dresses that are so hot this season. Pick one with full sleeves, with wide hemlines at the end of each sleeve. Get it in floaty lace, with an empire waist of course. A full hemline for the skirt wouldn’t hurt either. Make that your de facto little black dress.

4. Load up on the accessories. Wear earrings to draw attention to your pretty face. Wear bangles to bring the eye to your arms instead of your waist. Wear stunning shoes, or boots that would complete your look.

5. Get on of this season’s pretty belts and use that to cinch your dresses and jackets at the narrowest part of your ribcage.
